Emigrant Flame
Further along the stunning promenade, visitors can see the Emigrant Flame, built to commemorate the pain and the new hope of emigration including among others, President John F Kennedy’s great-grandfather Patrick Kennedy, who sailed from New Ross for Boston in 1848 and in doing so perhaps changing history forever.‘When my great-grandfather left here to become a cooper in East Boston, he carried nothing with him except two things: a strong religious faith and a strong desire for liberty.’ JFK, New Ross, 1963.
